Product Description:
Hydrogen sulfide, represented by the chemical formula H2S, is a colorless gas recognized for its distinct foul odor resembling rotten eggs. This gas is heavier than air and possesses harmful properties, being highly poisonous, corrosive, flammable, and explosive.
Hydrogen sulfide commonly originates from the bacterial decomposition of organic matter in oxygen-deprived environments, such as swamps and sewers, in a process known as anaerobic digestion. It can also be found in volcanic gases, natural gas, and some sources of well water. Additionally, hydrogen sulfide is present in natural halite-type rock salts, particularly in Himalayan Black Salt, predominantly harvested from the mineral-rich “Salt Range” mountains in Pakistan. Interestingly, the human body produces small quantities of H2S and employs it as a signaling molecule.
When dissolved in water, hydrogen sulfide forms hydrosulfuric acid or sulfhydric acid, which is a weak acid.
